The history of Centro Luís de Camões is connected to Bairro do Hospital and São Pedro parish in Funchal. What began through culture, sport and community life became a social intervention with several responses.
1992 · The beginning
The Centre was founded in January 1992 as a non-profit organisation developing recreational, cultural, sporting and social activities for the local community.
1998 · IPSS recognition
In April 1998, the institution was recognised as a Private Institution of Social Solidarity, strengthening its role in promoting wellbeing and inclusion.
2006 · Jardins dos Ilhéus
The Jardins dos Ilhéus Community Centre opened on 28 April 2006 in Bairro do Hospital, combining psychosocial support with community activities.
